What We DoFoNVRC facilitates community outreach and fund raising events as well as ensuring that there is a link between the community and staff of San Francisco Rec and Park Department. Our goals are to:
- Connect community members with their park
- increase community involvement in the park through newsletters, events and volunteer opportunities; build an online community that supports the exchange of information about the various areas of interest around the park; inform the community about important decisions from city government that directly affects the park.
- Communicate with the community and Rec and Park
- raise community concerns to Rec and Park and facilitate the dissemination of park information to the neighborhood
- Fund raise to enhance the park
- offer funds to help cover services and purchase items not covered in the City's budget; to date we have raised over $80,000 and purchased many items for the park, including a sound system, indoor tot room toys, sporting equipment. We are evaluating future purchases for the park, including additional equipment to enhance the park's activities, events, and community experience.
- Maintain the quality of our park
- ensure the upkeep of the facility and grounds through community involvement and awareness
Who We AreA group of neighbors and interested citizens banded together in 2005 to form Friends of the Noe Valley Rec Center (FoNVRC), to facilitate community involvement and enable communication between Rec and Park and you! The group has a small Stewardship Committee, with a number of volunteers each organized around a specific area of interest. We are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit group with San Francisco Parks Trust as our fiscal sponsor, and donations to the Friends of Noe Valley Rec Center are both a tax deduction and a great way to keep your park a great place. What We DoThe purpose of the stewardship committee is to maintain regular communications about the Upper Noe Valley Recreation Center with the community. Each committee member has a part of the park that is their particular area of interest, and the stewardship committee tries to watch out for that particular part of the park. That member will also help members of the community know about the Rec Center offerings in that area, communicate with relevant Park and Rec staff, and advocate for that community resource. We welcome new stewards in the existing areas of interest -- or in a new area of interest. Please contact us at
